Private-Pay Behavioral Consultation
What is Behavioral Consultation?
Behavioral consultation (also called behavior coaching) is similar to ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) in that it relies on the same behavioral principles: observing behavior objectively, identifying functional relationships, and using evidence-based interventions to promote change. What makes behavioral consultation different, however, is that while ABA therapy traditionally involved a specialist working directly with the learner and parents trained outside of these sessions (with or without the learner), behavioral consultation is focused on providing the consultee–often a teacher, parent, or other caregiver–with guidance on how to reduce undesired behaviors. At From the Nest, we believe strongly in empowering caregivers to be catalysts for meaningful change, to be the role models and examples for their children, and to be the best teachers a child can have.
Behavioral consultation can be a part of an ABA therapy package, usually looking like parent training/family guidance. From the Nest also offer private-pay consultation, where you will meet with a credentialed BCBA on a schedule that works for you. Because it is not insurance-funded, the “rules” are more flexible. Parents/guardians choose the goals and are guided by the BCBA in putting interventions in place, monitoring them for effectiveness, and making appropriate changes to further promote progress. This is the least restrictive option for learners and their families, and learners of any age, diagnosis, behavior needs, and goals can potentially benefit. This also means that adults can benefit from behavioral consultation to target their own behaviors!
Here are some of our more structured offerings, all of which can be tailored to your unique goals and needs while still using evidence-based practices:
- Young Adult Independence Coaching: Develop your teen or adult child’s independence across social, vocational, community, self-management, budgeting, and other activities to promote a higher quality of life. We prioritize learner buy-in and autonomy, which means we follow their motivation and personal goals to respectfully teach skills that they will actually find relevant to their day-to-day.
- Routine Development: Learn how to create and implement stronger routines to increase your child’s cooperation–as well as how to promote their independence in these routines as they grow.
- Sibling Collaboration Support: Kids always in a private war? Not sure where to start? We might be able to help. We’ll look at triggers, consequences, goals, and more to encourage strong play, conversation, collaboration, and other skills between siblings.
- General Parent Skillbuilding: Learn the basics of the above, plus interventions to overcome other challenges you or your child face, like navigating school supports, being able to take your son to the store without tantrums, helping your daughter to make more friends, or modeling healthier electronics usage for your kids, all from a behaviorism perspective. We can focus on a one or two ongoing challenges or confront new challenges every couple of weeks–whatever you might need!

Need to Know
In some cases, families who start with From the Nest for behavioral consultation will be referred to ABA therapy if the learner appears to meet medical necessity for a more intensive treatment model. Families may also be referred to mental health services, family and/or learner support groups, education advocates, and other resources in conjunction with behavioral consultation or in place of behavioral consultation. Furthermore, if From the Nest cannot adequate serve your or your child’s specific needs due to a lack of competency in an area, we will help to identify a better fit.
The private-pay flat rate for consultation is $115 per scheduled hour. Package rates including a free consultation and a pre-determined number of sessions according to clinical recommendation, your goals, and your schedule are available at 15% off total cost. Note that this is not a mental health service.
