Individual Skill Coaching
Helping Teens & Adults Build Independence, Confidence, & Other Real-Life Skills
The skills required of growing young adults–chores, self-care, relationships and dating, job readiness, budgeting, and more–often need to be taught and developed for learners to be most successful and independent, especially if we want to limit the big consequences that a lack of preparation can carry!

You Might Be Here Because
• You or your growing child struggle with organization, time management, or follow-through
• Tasks get started but not finished (or avoided altogether)
• Caregivers are still heavily involved in things the young adult “should” be able to do independently
• Emotional reactions or frustration get in the way of progress
• You’re a parent thinking about long-term independence and feeling unsure how to best set your growing child up for success
What This Service Is
Individual Skill Coaching provides personalized, one-on-one support to help teens and young adults build the skills they need for greater independence in daily life.
This is not talk therapy or tutoring. It’s practical, skill-based coaching focused on real-world application.
We May Work On
• Setting goals, planning, and monitoring progress, including with real applications like budgeting and forming new habits
• Relationship skills, including adult friendships, dating, consent, and healthy boundaries
• Job readiness, including evaluating job postings for goodness of fit, writing a resume, interviewing, and specific skills
• The less-considered aspects of college, like living in a shared dorm, managing time independently, academic self-advocacy and resource-seeking, and navigating risky and new situations
• Internet safety, including what to share and what not, safe and appropriate usage habits, how to recognize risks, and how to handle these if they come up

Why Choose From the Nest’s Individual Skill Coaching Service?
1. Focused on real-life independence, not just short-term compliance
2. Tackling the individualized short- and long-term goals set by the learner (sometimes with caregiver input), not what you “should” be doing
3. Not just talking about goals and struggles, but making real, specific plans for how to develop skills and how we determine if it’s effective
4. Skills taught in a way that actually generalizes outside of sessions
5. Support that respects your (or your child’s) age, needs, and strengths. This isn’t just a grown version of early intervention.
6. Grounded in behavior science, without feeling clinical or overwhelming
7. Virtual and in-person* options available (*dependent upon location and other factors)
8. Weekly, biweekly, or monthly options so scheduling is helpful, not yet another thing on the calendar
9. No pressure for perfection, just practical progress. Even baby steps move us forward!
10. Parent collaboration available when it’s desired and appropriate to the learner. We prioritize informed consent, privacy, and age-appropriate autonomy, but we also know the role parents often play even in independent adults’ lives!

| A Great Fit For | Not The Best Fit If |
| Your child is a teen or young adult (or you are a young adult) working toward greater independence | Your child needs intensive, hands-on behavioral support across multiple areas (see our infographic for more of our service offerings) |
| You’re seeing executive functioning challenges (organization, planning, follow-through) | You’re looking for academic tutoring |
| You want support that goes beyond school performance | You’re not able to support follow-through between sessions (when needed) |
| You’re thinking about long-term life skills, not just immediate tasks | Your teen or young adult is not interested in developing skills, even with their active involvement in setting goals |
